Removals in Honley

Honley is a Holme Valley village between Huddersfield and Holmfirth, known for its old weavers' cottages and steep, narrow lanes. Good planning makes all the difference here.

Moving in Honley

Honley lies in the Holme Valley in HD9, just off the A6024 Woodhead Road between Huddersfield and Holmfirth. The heart of the village is a tight grid of stone cottages, many of them former weavers' houses, on streets that climb steeply away from the centre.

For a removal, the main questions in Honley are where the van can stop and how far it is to the door. Some cottages front straight onto a narrow lane, others are reached by steps or a yard, and parking on the main streets can be limited. We check all of this from your video so the crew arrives with the right van and a plan.

Outside the old centre, roads towards Brockholes, Netherthong and Hall Ing have more modern houses with drives and garages. Those moves are usually simpler to load but often involve bigger households, so we make sure the crew and van size match the job.

Old stone properties tend to have narrow doors, tight turns on the stairs and thick walls that make some furniture hard to manoeuvre. We protect floors and frames, and we will tell you before the day if anything needs taking apart.

Getting to Honley from Huddersfield

For removals in Honley, the route from Huddersfield runs out along the A616 through Lockwood and Berry Brow into the Holme Valley. Armitage Bridge, Brockholes and Thongsbridge are all close by, and Holmfirth is a few minutes further up the valley.

Honley also has a station on the Penistone Line, which is handy for viewings. On moving day, though, everything goes by road, so the van route and the parking at your door are what count.

The steeper roads out of the valley bottom can be icy in winter. If you are moving in the colder months, keep an eye on the forecast and talk to us early if it looks doubtful.

What is it like moving out of a weavers' cottage?

Many of Honley's oldest homes are weavers' cottages, with long rows of windows on the top floor where the looms once stood. That top room is often the biggest in the house, but it is reached by the smallest staircase. Large pieces in these rooms were often carried up in parts or built in place.

If a wardrobe or bed went in flat-packed, it will usually need taking apart to come out again. Simple bed and flat-pack dismantling is included in your quote, while complex assembly is listed separately. We will tell you before the day what needs doing.

Some cottages are built into the slope, with a cellar on one side and rooms on different levels. Walk through every level in your video, including the cellar and the attic, so nothing is missed.

Moving between Honley, Holmfirth, Meltham and Huddersfield

A lot of moves start and end in this corner of Kirklees. Some people move up the valley to Holmfirth or over the hill to Meltham. Many move down into Huddersfield for a shorter commute or a flatter street.

Short moves are still worth planning properly, because both ends can have tight access. We look at the pick-up and the drop-off in the same quote, so the van and crew suit both properties.

Moving the other way, from a town flat to a valley cottage, usually means more stairs and less parking than you are used to. Check the access at the new end before you book.

Should you choose man and van or a full removal in Honley?

If you are moving a one-bedroom cottage, a few items of furniture or a single piece bought locally, our man and van service usually suits. On narrow lanes, a smaller van can also get closer to the door.

For a family home, a cottage with lots of stairs or a move out of the valley, a full house removal with a bigger crew makes more sense. It shortens the day and keeps the carrying safe. Packing can be added to either option if you would rather not do it yourself.

Whichever you choose, keep cash, jewellery and important documents with you rather than in the van. In a busy cottage move with boxes on several floors, that is the simplest way to keep them safe.

Moving to Honley from further away

If you are moving into the Holme Valley from elsewhere, check the parking outside your new home before you book a date. Ask the sellers or the agent where vans have stopped in the past, and whether there are steps or a shared path to the door.

Our guide on moving to the Huddersfield area covers the wider area, from the valleys to the town. For longer moves into Honley, we build the mileage into a fixed price in writing, so you know the cost before you commit.

Quotes are free with no obligation, so you can get one early and book once your moving date is confirmed.
